What about those ads that ask for medical transcriptionists with two or three years of experience? Will anyone give you a chance to show what you can do?

Employers have been gracious enough to give our students a chance to test for them when they ask. They know the staff of Andrews School of Medical Transcription won't misrepresent the abilities of students or try to oversell them. We want employers to continue to come to us when they need medical transcriptionists.

The way you present yourself to your prospective client or employer will determine your opportunity to demonstrate your medical transcription proficiency. Most of our graduates have done very well in that respect. We greatly appreciate those recruiters and supervisors who believe in giving new people a chance.

If you are going to invest money, time, and effort in a medical transcription course, do your homework. Make sure the instructors know a great deal about medical transcription and how to teach it. You'll want your training to enable you to join the exciting and challenging career of medical transcription!

Medical transcriptionists have more control over their careers than most occupations. You can choose where and when to work (within reasonable limits). There are lots of options available. You may choose to work from home for yourself or as an employee of a medical transcription service or hospital. Another option would be to work outside your home in a hospital or for a medical transcription service. Other options include working in a doctor's office, insurance company, attorney's office, or a company marketing medical products or a medical book publishing company. If you are able to keep your options open, you'll have more opportunities. On the other hand, if you limit your availability to work, you may have fewer options and less income. It's even possible to be so picky about when and where you will work that you limit yourself out of work entirely. A little bit of common sense goes a long way.
